San Diego Supercomputer Center, University of California, San Diego

Founded in 2006, the San Diego Supercomputer Center's StudentTECH program, an outreach program of the University of California, San Diego, offered year round programming for students in grades 4-12. Topics such as computer science, biotechnology, geology, math, engineering and science are covered through workshops and camps offered after school, on Saturdays and throughout the summer months. This acclaimed program is endorsed by the San Diego County Office of Education and community partners throughout the county.

XSEDE Project Brings Advanced Cyberinfrastructure, Digital Services and Expertise to Nation's Scientists and Engineers

A partnership of 17 institutions last week announced a new project that allows researchers open access to the power of supercomputers, advanced computational tools and digital resources and services directly from their desktops.

Called Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE), the project links computers, data and people from around the world to establish a single, virtual system that scientists can interactively use to conduct research.

Workshops offered this Summer ranged from working with the Matlab program to create simulations to working with live proteins in the Biotech Academy. Students were able to learn and accomplish in a wide variety of advanced fields.
