The Purpose of the TeacherTECH Community Portal

Moodle is a free, Open Source software package designed to help educators create effective online websites and learning communities. Moodle is the most popular open source learning management system on the web. Its rich-featured tool set suits middle school, high school, college, and university websites. Plus, Moodle can be used to create a web presence for students of all ages.

Moodle features for teachers include:
• Moodle promotes collaboration, activity-based learning, and critical reflection.
• Moodle is suitable for all online classes as well as supplementing face-to-face learning.
• Moodle has a simple, efficient, low-tech browser interface.
• Course listings show descriptions for every course on the server, including accessibility to guests.
• Courses can be categorized and searched - one Moodle site can support thousands of courses.

It is our hope that by hosting Moodle workshops and thereby hosting teacher sites, we can create a strong, interactive learning community of teachers and students.
