Our Education Programs

Information technology (IT)-enabled systems, tools, and services are profoundly affecting the practice of science and engineering research and education. Integrated to form “cyberinfrastructure” (CI), they enable individuals, groups, and organizations to work together in new ways, revolutionizing what they can do, how they do it, and who can participate. San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is committed to sharing CI and its exciting promises with the next generation of scientists, engineers, and citizens.

TeacherTECH

Current education programs for K-12 students and teachers include IT tools (such as on-line learning modules, or applications that can be used in the classroom); CI-related workshops and classes for teachers.

CI-Channel

CI-Channel delivers archived web-casts of educational science events for live or anytime-access incorporation into classroom curriculum.

Discover Data Education Portal

The Discover Data portal provides a way for K-12 teachers and undergraduate professors to incorporate scientific data into their curricula. Our process is to select data from existing online freely available scientific data archives, some of which may be a challenge for students to use without assistance, and build a series of lessons around them designed to guide K-12 and undergraduate students through beginning, intermediate, and advanced scientific tools.

SDSC’s education department continues to work with scientists, educators, and colleagues around the country to expand, enhance, and disseminate CI educational offerings for students and teachers of all ages.

Related Education Efforts

Scientists working at the San Diego Supercomputer Center are also interested in education. Some have even developed education projects based on their research. Below are links to some education projects created by SDSC scientists.
